WINNIPEG, MB: Nike Bello, MBA, CPA, FCCA, CFE, and president of Compass Accounting Chartered Professional Accountant Inc., recently participated in a public panel discussion for Black History Month at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business. The event, which was titled Connecting Black Voices in Manitoba, was targeted toward young, early-career black immigrants and explored themes related to thriving as a black immigrant in the professional world of corporate Canada.

Compass Accounting Chartered Professional Accountant Inc. is a Winnipeg-based accounting firm serving a wide range of industries and small businesses throughout Manitoba and beyond. Nike Bello, the company’s president, makes it a priority for her team members to consistently build personal relationships with clients, provide customized financial education, and honour each client’s professional journey. As a black woman thriving in the Canadian financial industry, she, too, has a unique professional journey to share.

February is Black History Month, and this year, Nike Bello was thrilled to be invited to participate in the Connecting Black Voices of Manitoba panel discussion hosted at the University of Manitoba. “This event held special significance for me, as it was an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and celebrate the rich heritage of the Black community,” she said. “It was an honour to share insights, stories, and experiences alongside esteemed colleagues and community leaders.”

The panel discussion, which took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Asper School of Business, featured six panellists, all thriving Canadian professionals and black immigrants to Canada. The event was geared toward young black immigrants who are just starting and/or transitioning into professional careers and provided an opportunity for honest discussion and dialogue about topics ranging from mental health in the black community to managing finances.

Nike Bello believes the panel was an important opportunity to connect with a younger generation around the intertwined realities of professional success, culture, belonging, and identity. She looks forward to having the opportunity to participate in more such events in the future.
