This second edition offers readers a profound narrative of self-discovery, resilience, and the transformative power of love.

In Journey to Joy: From Spiritual Rigidity to Freedom, Ronald (Al) Rauckhorst shares his remarkable journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. The narrative begins with his strict Roman Catholic upbringing in Akron, Ohio, and his formation as a priest with Maryknoll. Rauckhorst’s time as a missionary priest in South Korea and the transformative impact of the Second Vatican Council are pivotal moments that led to his departure from the priesthood and a new path toward spiritual freedom.

The book continues with Rauckhorst’s life after leaving the priesthood, detailing his 50-year marriage, the adoption of two Korean daughters, and the joys and challenges of family life. His story emphasizes the evolution from a rigid spiritual framework to a more open, loving, and nonjudgmental approach to relationships with God and others. Louise Rauckhorst adds depth to this edition with a Forward and an Epilogue, sharing insights from their retirement years and the enduring impact of Al’s spiritual journey.

Journey to Joy: From Spiritual Rigidity to Freedom invites readers to reflect on their life journeys and find ways to embrace personal growth and transformation. It is available for purchase on Amazon and other leading online retailers.

About Ronald (Al) Rauckhorst:

Ronald (Al) Rauckhorst was ordained in 1959 and served as a Maryknoll missionary priest in South Korea for a decade. He left the priesthood in 1970 and married his wife, Louise, in 1971. Together, they adopted two Korean daughters in 1981. Al passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022, just before their 51st wedding anniversary. Despite his deep appreciation for his time as a priest, Al believed his greatest spiritual growth occurred during his married life.
